Special thanks to the author for providing me with an eARC of this book– I was not required to leave a positive review.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars)

After having the pleasure of reviewing the first book in this trilogy over the summer, I couldn’t wait for a chance to read the sequel!!! Let’s just say I had some serious distress over how a certain aspect of the plot was going to go…. AND IT WAS PERFECT!!!

Don’t get me wrong– the plot, the worldbuilding, yeah, it was all super interesting and well thought-out. I was especially impressed by the faith content and the scripture references throughout this story, because I wasn’t really expecting that to take quite so much of the center stage, but I love how that played out.

But I was here for the relationship (and for Ember, of course), and I am not ashamed of that.

Kathryn L. Jordan did not disappoint.

A world revolving around the different houses, and having dragons that they raise and keep as pets that double as super cool friends with amazing fighting abilities– yeah, that’s still pretty great. I was definitely still feeling the How To Train Your Dragon aesthetics in this one– even moreso than the first, so I would definitely recommend giving this one a try if you were a fan of that franchise, like me.

But, honestly… it was still the adorable romance that had me begging for more. And the adorable dragon. Because, HOW IS EMBER EVEN CUTER IN BOOK TWO??

Alright, time for coherent non-fangirling thoughts.

Content-wise, this one was still super clean. There is a mention of a girl being attacked and “violated”, as well as villains that threaten to ravage the women and children of the village (don’t worry, that doesn’t happen). Also, we have fighting, wounds, blood, etc., but nothing over-the-top for YA fantasy. Also, there is a cliffhanger.

You have been warned.

But, it’s worth the cliffhanger because… OH MY GOODNESS THE ROMANCE I CAN’T EVEN TALK ABOUT IT, IT WAS TOO CUTE!!!

So, yes, I would definitely recommend this for Christian teens who want a new fantasy world to escape to– it’s a very fun read, and keeps the plot moving at a fast pace so you’re never bored. Plus, if you like sweet romance… this book might have a little bit of that, hehe!

Thanks again to Kathryn L. Jordan for providing me with an eARC. I can’t wait to read book three!!!

(and matchmaking dragons should totally become a new trope in fantasy.)

I’m Keira Anne (with an E)

Welcome to my little corner of this great big world wide web– which feels a little scary to type out. Since I’m here, that means I am not reading, which is actually pretty crazy. Now that we’ve acknowledged that anomaly, however, I will go back to reading. Feel free to join me as we discover a world of books!
