Four quirky retired ladies live on a cruise ship, dubbing themselves the Shippers, and generally deciding to bring people together and spark true love aboard the ship.

Lacey is a hostess on board, and when an old flame of hers– Jonathan– ends up the victims to the Shippers matchmaking schemes, they find themselves in eccentric plans and schemes to end up together.

This laugh-out-loud comedy is over-the-top with humor, hilarious characters, and sitcom-worthy situations.

⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ (4.5/5 stars)

I wanted to read a book that felt like a classic comedy– one with humor, and ridiculous situations, and fun characters I could absolutely fall in love with. This story, I am pleased to say, had all that and more. To say that this book had the aesthetic and feel I was hoping for would be a mass understatement. Honestly, I could see this one becoming a new annual read for me, because I just absolutely adored it, and I cannot wait to read the sequel!!!

Our main characters were four delightful elderly women who live on a cruise ship, and call themselves “Shippers” (but they’re basically just matchmakers who are ready to scheme and do what needs to be done to get people their happily ever after). These ladies were just such great characters, and I adored them so much.

Our love interests were fine– not exceptional in my opinion, but also nothing terrible. To be honest, they were competing with the four hysterical old ladies, so it’s not really a fair contest. I was glad with the faith content and redemption arcs that were going on, and I thought they were both the perfect people to be roped into outrageous situations by our foursome.

I can’t even explain how much happiness this book gave me. I was convinced I should read it by Katie from Paperbacks and Ponytails– thank you so much for that recommendation! Honestly, I so whole-heartedly recommend this story as the perfect book-cation.

There was a fair bit of content sprinkled throughout, mostly random off-hand comments made by one of the elderly ladies. Also, as a subplot, they’re trying to stop drug smugglers who are using the ship to transport it. I would overall say it was fairly clean (one usage of the word “cr*pper” used by a disliked character), with a lot of faith content, and I would recommend it for any adult readers who are interested. Especially those who enjoy stories with older characters and lots of comedy.

In summary, this was absolutely spectacular. Such a fun summertime read set on a cruise ship, and centering around delightful faith-filled friends. I would highly recommend this story, because I just had such a great time with it. If you enjoy retro/vintage comedy, then I would say go for it.

Welcome to my little corner of this great big world wide web– which feels a little scary to type out. Since I’m here, that means I am not reading, which is actually pretty crazy. Now that we’ve acknowledged that anomaly, however, I will go back to reading. Feel free to join me as we discover a world of books!
