The Legacy of the classic Cinderella tale continues to search for the girl with the glass slipper. Too bad she can’t stand Prince Charming.

In this fresh spin on a beloved fairytale, we watch as our main couple, Olivia and Julius, are forced into a fake relationship for the sake of the Legacy, and set off to uncover a mystery.

But as they start to have feelings for each other, they begin to wonder if the Legacy is pushing them together, or if everything they’ve ever dreamed of is right in front of them.

⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ (4.5/5 stars)

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, but I was very pleased to discover this one was even better. After all the backstory needed for the high concept of the first story, I was a little worried this one would be confusing, but it was actually really nice, and easy to follow along with. I loved our main characters’ banter/relationship, and I feel like this book really showed what could be done with such an amazing premise, and I was very happily surprised.

(I will say I would recommend reading this series in order, because we do learn certain things about the Legacy that would be confusing without the prior book to give you a little bit of backstory and explanation there.)

Our two main characters were really fun. I thought Julius was very humorous as a Prince Charming who didn’t know what to do when someone wasn’t naturally charmed by his prince-liness. And, also, I liked how she wasn’t your typical Cinderella character, and she was willing to do some research and figure out what was going on in the story.

The side characters were fine for the most part– I really enjoyed seeing Daphne again (so excited for book three!), and Cade was very fun. A few of the other characters weren’t my favorite, but that’s alright, and I was happy with how things ended up working out with them.

I really enjoyed seeing a Cinderella story that wasn’t just ‘so this is love’, and instead had a lot more banter. There were so many parts I was smirking at with the humor– overall, it was a really good time. (Spoken like a true enemies-to-more reader, I know.) I liked seeing how their relationship progressed, too, and so, yes, I was a big fan of them together.

In a lot of ways, this story actually reminded me of The Princess Companion by Melanie Cellier, which is my favorite fairytale retelling, so that was very fun for me. *all the heart eyes* If you enjoyed that one, I think you should consider giving this one a try.

I feel like this was very quintessential clean fairytale retelling YA. I don’t feel like there was much content to note– it’s a romance, and there is some violence, but nothing that was personally upsetting to me. I don’t think I would have any trouble recommending it to older teens– but of course, everybody is different and has different taste.

This book (as well as the first book in the series) is available on Kindle Unlimited (at the time of posting), and I would definitely recommend checking it out, especially if you like Cinderella retellings, but you’re looking for something new.

EMOJI REVIEW!

  • 🥿 a new kind of cinderella
  • 😠 sort of enemies-to-more (with snarky banter!)
  • 🎭 fake relationship
  • 🕵‍♀ solving a mystery together
  • 👑 unintentionally royal
  • 🐁 lots of funny little tidbits hidden throughout
  • 📱 available on kindle unlimited (currently)

Overall, yes, I really enjoyed this story. One of my new favorite Cinderella retellings. I’m very excited to read the next book in this series, because I think it could definitely become my new favorite Sleeping Beauty retelling!

Welcome to my little corner of this great big world wide web– which feels a little scary to type out. Since I’m here, that means I am not reading, which is actually pretty crazy. Now that we’ve acknowledged that anomaly, however, I will go back to reading. Feel free to join me as we discover a world of books!
