In this kingdom, the people know better than to trespass on castle grounds, pick roses, face a Beast of any kind, or be the daughter of a merchant. Because the Legacy is intent upon repeating the Beauty and the Beast story… no matter how much the characters want or don’t want it.
When Rosalie finds a man about to entrap himself in the Legacy, she steps in to save him from a fate captured by a Beast. However, in doing so, she inadvertently involves herself in the Legacy. The only way to keep out of trouble is to work together to rewrite a tale as old as time.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5 stars)
I was so excited to start this book… I had heard Lindsey from Books for Christian Girls talk about how much she enjoyed this one, and since I don’t usually love Beauty and the Beast retellings, I was hoping this would be an exception. And, I’m happy to say that it was actually really fun, and I had a good time reading it. The Legacy part was a little difficult for me to figure out, and then I felt like we spent a little too much time on it, so I ended up getting a little bored. However, I still enjoyed this one a lot.
Our main characters were refreshingly different from what I’m used to with retellings of this story. Rosalie was a little grumpy, but she ended up being okay in the end (oh, and there was one thing about her character toward the end that made me totally like her a ton more, but I think that counts as a spoiler, so I won’t talk about it). Dimitri– instead of being grumpy– was a much more friendly character, which actually worked really well with this story. And, the side characters were actually really interesting, which I wasn’t expecting that much. Oh, and her brothers were so funny the whole time, for the record.
The romance itself was pretty fair, although I did have one slight issue with it, but I can’t really talk about it without giving away spoilers. However, I just wasn’t sure about this one part, but it wasn’t a huge deal, anyway. The way that they had to ‘fake’ the story was really fun, especially since they had to do it full-time, which made me really happy. Since I love fake-dating, this was close enough for me to really enjoy it.
Also, I think it’s only fair to precaution readers by saying they didn’t really explain the original Legacy, and since it didn’t follow the Disney movie, I got confused in some parts. I would have appreciated a prologue that explained the basic idea at the beginning, just to add some context.
Content-wise, this book was pretty appropriate. I would definitely recommend this for teen or adult readers, because it was very clean, and I ended up having a very good time reading it. Especially if you’re a huge fan of fairytale retellings– or someone who isn’t a huge fan of fairytale retellings because you feel like they’re all the same.
This book is available on Kindle Unlimited (I think all of Melanie Cellier’s books are), and I am interested in continuing with the series. I think the next one is a Cinderella retelling that was recently released, and I’m excited about that one. All in all, though, I really enjoyed this one, and I think it’s probably my favorite Beauty and the Beast retelling I’ve read.
