I doubt you’ve ever read a Robin Hood retelling like this. I mean, she is Robin Hood, and he is Prince John. Sound interesting enough? What if I told you that they hated each other, but still ended up in a marriage of convenience?

And what if I told you that it was also had all of the sweet romance without any spice?

If you’re anything like me, you probably think that it sounds too good to be true. However, that’s what this book is.

Let’s dive in! I’m so excited to share about this book!!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 stars)

Let me start at the beginning. For some reason, I used to think I did not like enemies-to-more romance. This book helped me realize that I couldn’t be more wrong. Actually, I’m a huge fan of enemies-to-more, and this book perfectly illustrates why. It has all of the best of this trope, without any of the spice or steam (no hate toward people who like spice and steam in their books, it’s just not my personal taste). But, this book just made me so happy the whole time I read it. As soon as I finished it, I basically wanted to start it all over again.

The relationship in this book… oh my goodness! I loved the banter and their interactions throughout the course of this story so much. I grinned the entire way through the book, and my highlights probably overwhelmed my poor Kindle book. I will probably end up buying my own copy so I can add tabs throughout. I really enjoyed all of the tidbits of our two main characters together, and I liked how their relationship changed gradually, which made it feel a lot more natural than I expected in a book like this.

Another part that stood out to me was how the author orchestrated the story so that the legend that carried on could be the other Robin Hood retellings we hear about now. By having her dress up as a man, and having Prince John have his villainous reputation from the people (even though he’s our main character), it actually translates over that the regular story could be the way that this story was remembered. (I don’t know if this makes any sense, but it makes sense to me, so, I’m just going with it).

The side characters were great, and without giving away too much about the story– because I think you should just read it for yourself– I loved how we tied up everything at the end. It felt really satisfying, and made me grin so hard. (If you’ve read the book, you might know what I’m talking about. 😊)

Content-wise, I feel like this book was very clean. For a Robin Hood retelling, there wasn’t a lot of violence or anything, and the romance was sweet and clean. I don’t remember any magic or language, either, which was refreshing. I would say it was alright for high school students.

EMOJI REVIEW:

  • 🌳 robin hood retelling
  • 🏹 lots of archery
  • 😡 real enemies-to-more romance
  • 👑 marriage of convenience for the good of the kingdom
  • 🏰 forced proximity in a castle
  • 🎨 artist male main character
  • 🤣 laugh-out-loud banter and comedy

In summary, I loved this book. Please, if my rambling has convinced you to read it, I hope you’ll go and check it out. I read it on Kindle Unlimited, and so, that’s a nice easy way to access this story and try it out for yourself. After finishing it, I recommended it to my mom and my sister, and they both enjoyed it a lot. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

What’s your favorite Robin Hood retelling? Do you like the enemies-to-more trope? Thanks so much for being here, dear friends.

So long for now.

Welcome to my little corner of this great big world wide web– which feels a little scary to type out. Since I’m here, that means I am not reading, which is actually pretty crazy. Now that we’ve acknowledged that anomaly, however, I will go back to reading. Feel free to join me as we discover a world of books!
